I remember seeing the trailer for Fresh Dressed a few months ago and being blown away by the editing for the trailer. I missed its debut on CNN, but thankfully, it’s on Netflix Instant now!
I really liked it. There was a lot of information, but it never felt overwhelming. What I loved most about Fresh Dressed was that 1) you could tell that the director has a genuine love + emotional investment in hip-hop. He gets it and I think that’s what made the film a successful watch. He sees the beauty in the “street” fashion that’s always been around and 2) many of the stories are really inspiring! My favorite parts were about Dapper Dan + Sean John.
The only critique I have, of course, is there weren’t enough ladies in it. It was very male-centered and there was a tiny mention of ladies’ fashion, but…it’s hip-hop, so I get it.
It was fun to learn about these brands and styles (FUBU, Cross Colours, Karl Kani, etc.) that I grew up watching, wearing or coveting. I really recommend it. Here’s the trailer:
